Another great day greeted us as we took on Brunswick Zebras at Anderson Reserve.
In a dominant first half display we controlled the ball and game from start to the end of the half. Our visitors were fortunate to be only 2 goals down.
Our first game after his signature move saw King Connie round the keeper after a ball over the top by the excellent Merks saw us take a deserved lead.
Taner hit the crossbar with a trade mark header but he didn’t have to wait long to open his account for the season. A great ball was played by our returning captain Ozzie, and his leap and header gave the keeper no chance.
It was just rewards by his excellent start to the game. Nawar was causing havoc on the wing and should of scored when a cut back was tamely hit. Nick on the other side had a shot saved and he was linking up well with our first started in Voicee, and the joy we were getting down both flanks was great to watch. Loq was providing another avenue out on the right and our keeper and two centre halves had a quiet
first half.
Second half we were pegged back and gave the hall away far to easily and with an early injury to Sundy, saw a reshuffle at the back with Hish coming on and Voicee moving to the centre of defence.
Our opposition did extremely well to dictate the half and we finally conceded with a header at the far post was tucked in. Bakri then saved a goal bound header and we needed to respond and respond we did.
Mike stopped the ball from going out and his through ball to Ozzie then saw the pass played to Daniel who played a great ball to Jordan, who ran from deep and he did what he does best and 3-1 to City.
“We played very well first half and we have not yet settled as a group with Merks, Voicee, Sean, Ozzie missing large chunks of pre season and or games. That showed in our 2nd half performance but credit to Brunswick who made it difficult in the 2nd stanza. We need to kill off teams and not fall asleep at half time as it’s not good enough and will be working on keeping retention of the ball during the week” said Coach Michael.
